What is your whakapapa? Grandparents and parents.
He uri ahau no Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti Pukenga ki Waiau, Ngāti Whakaue me Ngāti Raukawa.
Ko Te Tiepa (Eddie) raua ko Te Rina (Lena) Purukamu ōku Tipuna Matua. Ko Kimioranga Poi tōku whaea, Ko Graham tōku Papa, engari na oku Tipuna, ahau i whakatipu.
I live in Tamaki with my Partner Nicole, my sons Tiepa and Blake, and my nephew Solomon.
Where did you grow up? And your fondest childhood memory.
I was born and bred in the Moana, mainly at Te Rereatukahia Pa. My fondest memories are definitely not the haircuts that my Grandfather used to give me but probably the whole package of growing up at the Pa, getting up to mischief with the cousins, playing games long ball, rugby, touch, and marbles (some world class marble cheats at Te Rereatukahia in my day haha).
What did you want to be when you were a child?
I always wanted to be a lawyer. I remember having a conversation with my Mum (Nan) when watching LA Law, an old TV show, where they had an opening scene where the boot of a car shut and it had a personalised plate LALAW. I said pointing to a lawyer “Mum thats what I want to be” and she quickly replied “what a Lalo”.
What it is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
I would like to repeat the words of the Gambler here but my Pop said to me once “You be you son, you are alright, don’t worry about what others think, do what you think is right” I can say that I have lived my life according to this and also knowing when to hold it, knowing when to fold it.......
One thing about you people would be surprised to know?
I have 21 siblings, I was brought up with my first cousin (Glenys) and the two youngest of my Pop and Nan’s kids Darryl and Liana along with two other cousins Truby and Eugene. To me they are my brothers and sisters, my maternal side I have 10 siblings (two deceased) and my Paternal side for which I have only recently met I have 5.
What do you enjoy doing for leisure?
Kai moana, collecting it, fishing, diving for it and eating it. Love my Rugby too and spending time with my whanau gathering kai moana.
What music do you currently have playing in your car?
I have 500 songs on my phone (all legally downloaded (honest), that I have on shuffle from Tupac to Tui Teka, Marvin Gaye to Metallica, kiwi/Maori music to Kravitz, love the hip hop too.
